Journal Entry, The World’s Edge Mountains
It has been forever since we entered these accursed Mountains. In that time, we have been attacked thrice, robbed once, offered partnership four times and ingnored by soliders twice. We have also hidden from war parties six times, including the Averland Fancypants. Not once have we met someone who offered a smile or a kind word without ultirior motives. Everyone here has his own plan and will happily lie, steal, flatter, cajole and murder to get it.
I can’t help but think that the Averland Fancypants have finally found their element.
When not faced with other people, I have found the Mountains bleak but not alltogether unpleasant. The Peaks are austere, stripped clean of plants and dirt by the ever-present wind, and the rock is good granite, strong and sturdy and sharp-edged. The sky is clear most day, a piercing blue broken only by the sun. The footing is firm, the Cliffs and ledges solid, and many small clearings exist for the nightly fire we must have to drive away the chill from the winds. A man could be content walking these Mountains all his life, admirering the rough beauty of the land here and the broad expanse stretching away below.
Yet I am not here to be swayed by landscape, nor to cut myself off from the World. I am here seeking treassure promised by our benefactor, and my satisfaction or fustration can only be meassured by my success in that endeavour.
And thus far, I am most fustrated.
I have not seen a single structure since we climbed the pass – no ruins, no chiselled stones, no remnants of door or wall or roof. Beyond the pass itself, we have found no trace that people have walked these Peaks.
Yet I know it must be here!
My fading memory of the map and our benefactor claimed the tomb was within these Mountains. That is why it has never been plundered, she said, because it is high above the reach of most thieves. They dig through the Borderlands, unearthing minor barrows and crypts, but the greatest tomb was fashioned here amongst the Cliffs, where it could rest undisturbed for all eternity.
Well, I mean to disturb it plenty.
-Marius von Tuchtenhagen
After fighting off another band of bandits, the Averland Fancypants meet up with a turncoat mercenary who joins their party.
They travel further South and are taken captive by the forces of Artilli Levrellian.
At his court they plead their case and Levrellian’s advisor Strykssen engage them for a mission to travel to the corrupt city of Virtrolle in order to retrive a mysterious Jade Sceptre.
The party decide to explore a bit first and run into Fatandria and her outlaw gang. After again having to strip down their weapons, they make a good case for working with her, and she agree to sponsor them in a mission to escavate the lost tomb, provided they can locate it and bring back evidence of their findings.
The party avoid the last Border Prince Mir Haflok after they conclude that Marius von Tuchtenhagen and his party likely already are working with this fanatic sigmarite Prince.
Heading into the World edge Mountains, and following clues on the strange Midnight Scroll, the Averland Fancypants locate the Tomb of the Death Scarab. They make the following discoveries.
The remains of the Mortuary Temple contain a secret passage down into the darkness. well beyond 30m. Further exploration may be of interest, but without a rope long enough, the party would have to crawl the dark tunnel without the comfort of a rope around their waist.
The main passage leads from the Mourtuary Temple to the great doors. Ignoring the ritual, the party advanced and two Ushabti came to life drawing great bows. After some effort the party manage to destroy the animated constructs.
On each side of the passage way is a large ship that seems to each contain hundreds of chained but animated skeletons. The party also find translations of the legend of the Death Scarab
The party negotiate the steps to the grand doors, triggering some traps but avoid really severe injuries. Even though a long spike through the foot still hurts like hell. Reaching the grand doors, one is slightly opened.
The Averland Fancypants will now:
[ ] Travel to back to deal with one or more border Princes.
[ ] Investigate into the corrupt city of Virtrolle
[X] Investigate deeper into the Tomb of the Death Scarab
[ ] Launch an attack on the city of Virtrolle (if the party has an army)
